Weekend Supplementary School is now back at Amana

Now that the academic year has started fully, its time that we should think once more about providing our children with some extra help in getting better results in school. To achieve this, we have re-started our Supplementary school once more in the first-floor of our office from October 16. The school’s primary target is to help Somali children attain better marks in English language. Lessons in Maths and Science are also available.

“With the help of Quartet funds, we are already running a supplementary school in Barton Hill. It’s a huge success.,” said Mahamoud Matan, co-ordinator of Amana. The new school in the Amana premises will help students who want to take up extra lessons in the weekends, thinks Istahil, co-ordinator of Supplementary school at Amana.

The past years have revealed worrying figures of academic underachievement by Somali children in Bristol. English is a second language to most of them and attending a mainstream school in this scenario is difficult. The Supplementary school in Amana will overcome these crucial learning barriers and help children attain better results at school. Our experienced staff and qualified volunteers from UWE will teach children to read texts from English books and newspapers, encourage students to participate in debates in English go through weekly school tasks to let the children be at par with other students.

Usually children will be addressed in small groups but one-to-one support sessions and mentoring are also available. To enrol your child call us on 01179550456.
